Marc Guyot

d. May 27, 2022

North Austin Location

Marc E. Guyot, 62, of Austin, Texas, passed away on May 27th, 2022, after a battle with pulmonary fibrosis.  Born in Los Angeles, CA, he moved to Hawaii in the 1980’s. He lived on the islands of O’ahu, Maui, Hawaii (Big Island) and Kaua’i.  He was a service writer for car dealerships, worked for a car rental company and had his own photography business, to name a few. In 1998, he went to California Western School of Law, San Diego, earning his law degree.  In 2005, he was appointed as the Deputy Prosecuting Attorney and then the Deputy County Attorney, with the County of Kauai.  He was also a Master Mason of Kauai Lodge F. & A. M.   In 2014, he moved to Austin, Texas with Yoko and worked for the City of Austin, Texas Health and Human Services, and most recently, as the Director of Enterprise Risk, Strategic Programs at the Texas State Office of Risk Management.  In Texas, he was most active in the Austin Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, serving in the stage crew or Sanhedrin.  His favorite function was operating the light board during degrees and meetings, but he was always willing to help anywhere he could.  He was inducted into the Knights of St. Andrew for his dedication to the Sanhedrin.

His past talents included being a soccer coach for kids in Kaua’i, swimming, golfing, cycling, and talking story (as they say in Hawaii).  Marc found his forever home, in Austin, Texas, taking walks with his wife, Yoko and their dogs, Miko and Shiro, and visiting all the different BBQ and craft beer eateries he could find.  If he could have eaten BBQ every day, he would have.  He loved taking all of his friends to his favorite spots in Austin, swapping stories and jokes, laughing and having a good time.  He also loved to cook. He was a genius to give everyone a special nickname. His travels took him to Japan, to Neuchatel, Switzerland which is his grandparents’ hometown, to New York City, to Paris, to Rome, and to Venice. He enjoyed following, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” In his spare time, he researched Japanese history.

Marc is survived by his wife, Yoko Watabe, originally from Japan, they met in Honolulu, 1998, his brother Mike Guyot of Tujunga, California, his sister Michelle Frener of Seaside, California, niece Alix Guyot of Harvard, Illinois, nephew Jesse Frener of Salinas, California, his Shiba Inu dogs, Miko and Shiro.

Marc is now resting in his lazy boy recliner, devouring smoked brisket, drinking beers, and laughing his booming laugh that we all loved so much.  Memorial services will be held at Austin Scottish Rite Theater on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at 2pm to 4pm.  For more information contact Yoko’s email:  ywatx@yahoo.com
