Louis Straits

Louis (Lackey) Straits was born November 3, 1945 to the late Ben Lackey, Sr. and the late Olivell Strait Smith in Taylor, Texas.  He attended O.L. Price School in Taylor, Texas.  He believed in God.

Louis or “Uncle Louis” loved his family and was always there to help with babysitting all the generations of his nieces, nephews and cousins.  He loved listening to all types of old school music.  Everyone loved his famous fried chicken and three-layer chocolate and yellow cake with chocolate icing.  His favorite pastime was shopping at the HEB grocery store with his sister Rosie to buy his favorite: ground meat and chicken.

Louis met Rosetta Tolliver and together they had one son, Arthur Ray Lackey in 1974.

Louis quietly departed his earthly life on Friday, December 27, 2019.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Ben Lackey, Sr. and Olivell Strait Smith; two brothers, Willie J. Reed, Sr. and James Lackey; and six other siblings that died in infancy.

Left to cherish his memories, his son, Arthur Ray Lackey of Austin, Texas; his loving sister, Rosie (Reed) Rose, Step-sister, Gracie Ann Ockletree of Austin, Texas; two grandchildren; his niece, Jamie Cook (Nathaniel) of Del Valle, Texas; nephews: Jimmie Deary (Erica); Willie J. Reed, Jr. of Corpus Christi, TX and Stanley M. Reed of Austin, TX; eight great-nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes.  There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain for the old order of things have passed away.” Revelation 21:4

Viewing will be from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 10, 2020 at All Faiths Funeral Home North, 8507 N. IH-35 Frontage Rd. in Austin, Texas.

Celebration service will be starting at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 11, 2020 at Cottonwood Baptist Church Baptist Church, 3177 Eva Street in Del Valle, Texas.
