Erlene Mcvay

April 2, 1937 — January 28, 2021

South Austin Location

Erlene Hestilow McVay was released from the torment of Alzheimer’s on Thursday January 28, 2021 at the age of 83. She is survived by her brother, Earl “Buddy” & wife Phyllis Hestilow & their daughter JoAnna of Bastrop; son Bill & wife Lydie McVay of Smithville; daughter Leegay & husband Steve Saxton of Johnson City; and son Kip & wife Amy McVay, of Webberville along with 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leroy McVay, and parents Earl & Dorothy Hestilow of Volente.

Erlene was born on April 2, 1937. She was a lifelong resident of South Austin, a retiree from the I.R.S., and a generous friend to neighbors, fellow mall walkers, the homeless, and feral cats. She didn’t just “keep” Austin weird. She MADE Austin weird.

Her family meant the world to her and there was nothing she would not sacrifice for the happiness and well-being of her children.

We will miss her Birthday Cards & Christmas Parties, her hugs, her beautiful smile and the unconditional love she gave us, her family.

She requested cremation and no service. Instead, she wished everyone to remember her by donating to the Salvation Army or their local animal shelter, and above all else, to LOVE EACH OTHER.
