Devonere Harris

August 9, 1993 — March 31, 2022

North Austin Location

Devonere viewed life as an abundance of solutions which simply needed to be matched with the right challenge. Through his ability to think outside of the box, his consistent perseverance and immense  determination, Dev enjoyed all that life offered. If an attempt to resolve a problem didn't work out the first time, that look of deep concentration would settle on his face and he wouldn't stop until he unlocked a solution that fit; as he spoke the words "Hey, can you just hold this for a few minutes?" We all quickly learned that those few minutes could lead to many enjoyable hours of watching Dev's ingenuity at work.

Devonere Rashaad Harris was born on August 9,1993 to Deirdra and Ronald Harris. His smiling eyes immediately began to soak in the world around him as he placed the two middle fingers of his left hand firmly in his mouth; his fingers were often seen there over the next several years. A very active baby, Devonere began rolling over at four months old and began walking unassisted at ten months. By 18 months, he'd discovered his favorite activity while at the playground was to walk straight up the slide which always made him laugh in delight.

After giving his consent at age 5, Devonere stood proudly as best man when Henry Whiteside joined his mother in matrimony to become the most loving and caring father who happens to be a step-parent that a child could ever have. Devonere relished in being taken into the loving arms of the large and fiercely devoted Whiteside family. Shortly after, Devonere enjoyed becoming a big brother, caring for and doting on his little brother, Hakyri then his baby sister, Arianna.

Before graduating from High School, Devonere enjoyed studying karate, mastering advanced swimming skills, playing percussion instruments in the marching band, playing guitar in the acoustic band, working as a short order cook at a downtown restaurant and displaying his art projects at the local recreation center, a downtown gallery as well as a few unsuspecting interior walls at home and at school. Devonere went on to take several Community College classes and attend trade school earning certifications in electronics, HVAC, Overhead Linesman, and CDL.

A jack of all trades and a master of many, Devonere was an extremely skilled shade tree mechanic, providing all types of repairs to many people at all times of day and night. Devonere was known to completely dismantle the entire braking system of his Nissan 350Z to rebuild it in time to drive to work the next day.

Extreme sports including skateboarding, drifting and motorcycle riding occupied his time when he was not attending school or working. It is through these activities, that Devonere slowly developed and cultivated his Chosen Family with whom he shared many secrets, experiences and innumerable amounts of time.

Six years ago, Devonere met Daniella Aguilar and instantly knew that he wanted to spend his life with her. The deep and enduring love they held for one another brought them to extend their family by adopting their dogs, Lulu and Gary as one of the first steps toward realizing the many plans they'd made for their long and prosperous future ahead which included marriage and children.

Through the enormous sadness envoking oceans of salty tears and causing our hearts to be monumentally heavy, we lovingly remember the boy that Devonere was and the man that he had become. Devonere is gone too soon but will never be forgotten as his infectious smile, easy charm and wit, flawless generosity and kindness, grace and humility has touched many hearts and will continue to linger on as we remember him and his true spirit.

Devonere is survived by the love of his life, Daniella Aguilar,  parents Deirdra and Henry Whiteside and Ronald Harris, brother Hakyri Whiteside, sister Arianna Whiteside, maternal Grandparents, loving Aunts, Uncles, cousins and a host of instantly kindred and long-time friends.
