Beryl Smart

Beryl Katelyn Smart spent her 79 years in service to her family, her Lord, her church, and her community until her death on Sunday, December 1, 2019. At the time of her death, Beryl had been a resident of Gracy Woods II Long Term Care Facility in Austin, Texas.  There, she was lovingly cared for by her children, grandchildren, and staff for three years.

Born on August 10, 1940 to Adriana Lewis and Roach LaFleur in Trinidad, West Indies, Beryl lived her entire life with grace, dignity, kindness, generosity, and, most of all, love.  Beryl was dedicated to the word of Christ and spent her life practicing her faith by mentoring, serving, and guiding her children and grandchildren to live their lives fully, and with purpose, and reminding them of Psalm 91, “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty…”

She was renowned in the family and among her friends for her expertise on healthful living, exercise, nutrition, financial planning, the power of forgiveness and humility, and was known to outrun grandchildren in a foot race for a city block.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Rawle Smart.  She is survived by her three children, Mernel Lovell, Lisa Smart, and Dexter Smart; her seven grandchildren, Jerard J. Lovell, Justin C. Lovell, Jason L. Lovell, Shanise L. Fuller-Wright, Jinea L. Fuller-Wright, Dante A. Smart, Destiny M. Smart and her great grandson- Justin A. Lovell Jr.
