Walter Leon Mills Sr. was born to John Mills and Dollie Gipson Mills on April 7, 1941. In Northport, Alabama. Walter accepted Christ at an early age in the Baptist faith. He attended Northport County public schools. He was very athletic and played football, basketball and baseball.

He graduated in 1963. In 1964, he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served 3 years, after which; he moved to Austin, Texas where he met and married Julia Mills.

He was a longstanding member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church and later moved his membership to New Light Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church where he faithfully continued to serve as a Deacon and choir member.

For the past 2 ½ years, He was married to Laura Tate Mills. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was affectionately known as “Creek” and he loved fishing, cooking, playing dominoes and spending time with family. Walter retired after 28 years of service at the City of Austin. Walter went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 21, 2017.

Visitation Service will be held on Friday, August 25th, 2017 from 1:00pm to 5:00pm at All Faiths Funeral Chapel, 8507 N. IH-35, Austin Texas. Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, August 26th, 2017 at 11:00am at New Light Ebenezer Baptist Church, 4607 Reyes St., Austin Texas.

Services will conclude after the Celebration of Life at New Light Ebenezer Church
