Tyrone James Watkins, nicknamed TJ and Nick, was born December 25, 1937, in Wilmington, DE.
He joined the Air Force in September 1956 and retired after 26 years of honorable military service in September 1982 at the rank of Master Sergeant. After his military service, Tyrone worked in the tourism and hospitality industries.
Tyrone enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, cooking, fishing, and photography. He was an avid reader and fan of kung fu films. Tyrone contributed to numerous local and national community causes by contributing to various charitable organizations. He was also a dedicated fan of the NFL Washington Commanders football team.
Tyrone professed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He attended Willie Chapel Primitive Baptist Church.
Tyrone passed away on July 10, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, William "Daddy Bill" Hopkins and Mary Hopkins; brothers Paul A. Watkins (and partner Geneva) and Leslie C. Hopkins; and Cousin Randolph "Petey" Dickerson.
He leaves behind his beloved daughter Bernadette Watkins; cherished sisters Cora Ida Kennedy and Valerie E. Kennedy; sister-in-law Helga Hopkins; nephew Justin Blazek; nieces Christine Brooks, Valerie Michelle Kennedy (and children), and Henrietta; Cousin Cynthia Johnson; and a host of close-knit kin and friends.
Tyrone will be deeply missed.
