Timothy Chester Newton

Timothy Chester Newton, 1950-2023

Born in Raleigh, NC. Tim is survived by his husband, Dr. David Hollier (Austin TX; originally from Kaplan, La). Tim is preceded in death by his parents, Chester Newton and Dorothy (Holmes) of Creedmoor, NC. He is survived by his sister, Sherrie (Cates) and husband, Steve; his brother Robert (Bob) Newton and wife Janet; his nephew, Justin Newton and niece, Ashley Newton. Tim was a graduate of South Granville High School and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill earning a bachelor's degree in history and French (he was also a proud clarinetist of the UNC band--Go Heels!).

After teaching for several years, Tim decided to begin a career in medical benefits administration--working in Washington, DC, Chicago, San Antonio, and Austin, Tx.−retiring from his career after 30 years. Tim and David found each other in 2008 and were married in 2015 (when the Supreme Court cleared the way), traveled to many countries across the globe, enjoyed hiking in the Rocky Mountains (and various national and state parks) enjoyed spending time with friends, reading, cooking, and sharing a nice bottle of wine now and again. Tim loved art and architecture, classical and baroque music, and the opera; he had a special fondness for France, French food and wine, and he especially loved Lyon, France. Tim’s study abroad year in Lyon was a most indelible life experience. All to explain why Tim became such a Francophile and had many enduring friendships from those days.

Tim will be buried in the family plot in the Rogers Cemetery, Creedmoor, NC during a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Parkinson's Voice Project parkinsonvoiceproject.org.
