Sidney Lane Womack

November 12, 1948 — May 25, 2025

Austin, TX

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the loss of Sidney Womack. Often described as larger than life, Sid was a devoted family man and cherished friend who touched the lives of everyone he knew. After a hard-fought battle with cancer, Sid spent his last hours at home with family, leaving peacefully on the evening of May 25, 2025.

Sid was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Shirley (Womack) Noakes.

Sid is survived by his wife, Sara Turpin; son Ian Womack and partner Samantha Stapleton; Ian's mother Carolyn Turman; nieces and nephews Chris Dannenmaier, Eric Dannenmaier, Renie Park, Laura Dupuis and Bill Dannenmaier; many wonderful great-nieces and nephews; and countless friends.

Sid was born November 12, 1948 in Granite City, IL to Virginia Lane Womack and Sidney Rhea Womack. Sid grew up in a loving home with his parents and sister, Shirley Womack.

He began his college studies at Southern IL University, earning a Bachelor of Science in 1969. He received a Masters Degree in Business Administration in 1970. Sid and his ex-wife Carolyn moved to Houston in 1972 then to Austin in 1974, where their son Ian was born in 1981. During that time, Sid worked as a Systems Analyst at the University of Texas, and took on other jobs, including roofing, construction, and truck-driving.

In 1999, Sid met and fell in love with his wife, Sara, and they happily remained in Austin, where he became a State Auditor before retiring.

Sid's interests and hobbies were extensive, because he had a love and thirst for knowledge, adventure, and fun. Sid got joy from travel, scuba diving, listening and making music, cooking, dining, bird watching, photography, model trains, coins and stamp collecting.

Sid led a life well lived.

And he was loved by all who knew him.
