Written with love by Sidney’s caretaker of 13 years, Paul Husarski
Sidney Rice How can I describe Sidney? Friendly, loving, brave, stubborn, great taste in music…simple, tough, pure and childlike. God dealt Sydney tough cards. Because of his disability, he required assistance in areas of his life that most of us take for granted.
Our paths crossed 12 years ago when I became his caregiver, proving that God has a sense of humor. We were a true “odd couple”. A lot of people said that Sidney was lucky to have me in his life, but I think it was the other way around. Or maybe we were both lucky. Sidney taught me what unconditional love is, how to care about others more than myself and filled the empty space in my heart. I am forever grateful.
Sidney had an impact on many lives; any that took the time to get to know him. We will never forget him – he will always live in our hearts and minds. Sidney was my best friend, my brother, my child and a light in my life. Even though he is gone physically, that light is still burning in my heart and mind. I will use it to make the world around me a better place.
The most beautiful thing I have ever seen was the was that Sydney used to hug and hold his mother so gently and so lovingly like she was the most beautiful, precious thing in the world. Every time I saw it, my heart melted and made me feel ashamed that I could not do the same with my own.
God used Sidney to change me. I love you, Sidney, I miss you and I will never forget you. You are perfect now; you can walk, talk, see and probably fly. Have fun with God and your mom. Hug your mom for me and tell her I try my best. I will always carry you in my heart until we see each other again. Thank you for everything. Sidney is greatly missed by his Brecon Home Family, his two natural brothers, Alan & Nick, his Mark Lee family, his hospice family, Lisa family friends, and many, many other people who had the pleasure to cross paths with him.
