Roger Davis, Sr

February 19, 1953 — April 24, 2012

North Austin Location

Roger Glenn Davis, Sr. passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 59, as a result of complications with kidney cancer. He fought bravely against the disease for fifteen months until the Lord finally called him home during the early morning hours of April 24th, 2012.

He was a devoted father to his son, Roger Jr., 29, and his daughter, Kimberly, 21. He loved all types of film and music and often enjoyed playing computer games with his two kids. He had an extensive thirst for knowledge, a broad sense of humor, and, though he spent a great deal of time alone, he cherished the company of his friends and family.

He was born in Kaufman, TX in 1953 to Alton Sr. and Lois Davis, as the sixth of seven children. He was described by his siblings as being quiet, sensitive, with a talent for mathematics, and having a great appreciation for hunting and fishing, two activities that he would enjoy for the rest of his life.

He graduated from Seagoville High School and studied business briefly at the University of North Texas. Roger joined the United States Air Force in 1972. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged from the USAF after serving a total of six years.

Years later, he applied his math talents and his technological proficiency toward his work at Dell Computers, where he was employed for sixteen years until retiring after his cancer diagnosis.

After retiring, Roger took the opportunity to cross off several items from his "bucket list," including taking a motorcycle trip to Mount Rushmore in South Dakota and taking a Caribbean cruise with several family members. He began going back to church, while he was physically able, and became closer to God. While his physical strength depleted during his illness, his desire to keep fighting endured. He lived out his last days with dignity and peace.

He is survived by his children, Roger Jr. and Kimberly; his mother, Lois Davis; his brothers, Ronald R. Davis and Jeffrey K. Davis; his sister, Linda Dunlap; close friends, John Alblinger, Gary Thomas, and Jannette Thomas; as well as countless other friends and family members.

Memorial services will be held at Fitzhugh Baptist Church in Austin, Texas on Saturday, May 26th, 2012 at 2:00 PM. His ashes will be interred at Killeen National Cemetery on May 29th.
