In Loving Memory of Roberto “Bobby” Mendez

Roberto “Bobby” Mendez passed away peacefully on August 21, 2026, at the age of 75. He was surrounded by his beloved wife, children, and grandchildren.

Bobby was born on July 9, 1951, in El Paso, Texas. He grew up in Segundo Barrio with his mother, brothers, and sister, surrounded by family, friends, and the community he loved so deeply.

He attended Aoy Elementary School and later Bowie High School in El Paso, Texas. Bobby was a Bowie Bear at heart, and he carried that pride with him throughout his life.

From a young age, Bobby was known for being fearless, adventurous. Bobby played football with the El Paso Boys Club in Segundo Barrio, boxing, and wall ball. Bobby brought energy and enthusiasm wherever he went. He loved softball and played with the Kufus guys. He played with determination and a competitive spirit that made him unforgettable to those who knew him.

Bobby was a fearless wrestler. With his father, Jesus G. “Loco” Mendez, by his side, Bobby entered the world of Lucha Libre. His father was a Hall of Famer in Lucha Libre Juarense in Ciudad Juárez, and Bobby had the opportunity to travel with him to different cities, performing Lucha Libre matches and experiencing the excitement of the sport firsthand. Wrestling was more than an activity for Bobby—it was a part of his family, his heritage, and his life.

Bobby had a big heart for his community. He sponsored Halloween events in Segundo Barrio, giving back to the neighborhood he grew up in. He was known for feeding the children and making sure the kids in the community had something special to look forward to. He was a man who never forgot where he came from.

Bobby was well known and loved by many. His stories, laughter, adventures, and unforgettable personality will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ramona Valenzuela; his father, Jesus G. Mendez “Loco Mendez”; his brother, Eduardo Mendez; his grandson, Jeremy Roy Gomez; and his great-grandbabies.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, brothers, sister, daughters, sons, grandchildren, extended family, and many friends who will forever cherish his memory.

He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and never forgotten.

Rest in peace, Bobby. Your fight is over, but your legacy lives on.
