Born on October 7, 1963, in Austin, Texas, Richard lived a life filled with love, dedication, and an unwavering spirit. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and son, whose memory will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him.

Richard was a devoted husband to Melinda Zavala, creating a partnership rooted in mutual respect and love that stood the test of time. Together, they raised their family with an abundance of care and laughter, fostering bonds that would only deepen over the years. He cherished his role as a father to Emily Castillo and Brian Diaz, imparting life lessons and values that shaped their futures. As a father-in-law to Robert Castillo, he welcomed him with open arms, treating him as a son and sharing countless moments of joy.

The love Richard had for his grandchildren, Robert Castillo III and Iylah Castillo, was all-encompassing. He reveled in their innocence and boundless energy, often basking in their laughter as he created cherished memories that will live on in their hearts. Richard not only nurtured his family but also offered support and guidance, a testament to his character.

Richard was the proud son of John and Rosa Zavala, who instilled in him the virtues of kindness and perseverance. His brother Joe Zavala, and sister Melinda Garcia, alongside her husband James, remain as a testament to a cherished sibling bond. Richard's relationships extended beyond immediate family; he is remembered fondly by his brother-in-law Phillip Diaz and his wife Brandy, as well as a multitude of nieces and nephews who adored their uncle.

Though he is preceded in death by his brother John Zavala Jr., Richard’s kindness and strength of spirit continue to resonate with all who were fortunate enough to share in his life. His legacy of love and laughter will live on through his family, friends, and all whom he touched.
