A Life of Grace and Devotion:
Remembering Ramona “Monie” M. Muchow
November 1, 1936 - July 5, 2025
With a heart full of grace and a life rooted in faith, Ramona “Monie” Myrtle Eberhard Muchow, 88, of Buda, TX, entered eternal rest on Saturday morning, July 5,2025, at the Christopher House Hospice in Austin, TX. She was born in Easton, MD, on November 1 (All Saints’ Day), 1936. Growing up on the farm in Cordova, MD, with her parents Henry and Clarisse Eberhard and brother Herman, she graduated from Easton High School in 1954. As a life-long Lutheran and pastor’s wife she was baptized November 29, 1936, later confirmed April 2, 1950, and then married Rev. Donald (Don) K. Muchow August 14, 1960 -- all at the same Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cordova, MD. Her confirmation verse, Matthew 6:33 – “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you” – became the foundation of a life devoted to others.
After high school, Monie earned an ABS from Concordia Junior College, Bronxville, NY, in 1956, and completed her RN, BS at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, in 1959, in Baltimore, MD. A gifted and compassionate nurse, Monie served as an Emergency Room Nurse at Easton MD Memorial Hospital, the Cleveland Clinic as a Surgical Nurse, and then Deaconess Hospital in St Louis, MO, as an Orthopedic Nurse.
Together with her lifelong partner in faith and family, Don and Monie were blessed with two sons. While in St. Louis, she gave birth to Steven Albert Muchow (1962), the first of two sons. Later in Richmond, VA, Jeffrey Allan Muchow (1966) was born. Both as a pastor’s wife and a choir member, Monie beautifully supported her husband as a missionary with the inner city of Baltimore, MD, and as the Pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church, Richmond, VA.
In 1967 Monie became a full-time Navy wife as Don began his 33-year ministry to the Sea Services. She hosted Navy spouses, Bible classes, comforted countless service members and raised her sons for many years while Don was deployed. Additionally, she served as an “Arlington Lady” (1994-1997), one day a month representing the Secretary of the Navy at Sea Service funerals in Arlington National Cemetery.
Monie’s family was her greatest joy, and her love shone through quiet acts of kindness, warm hospitality, and steadfast encouragement. Known as “Mimi”, she took immense pride in her grands, and they cherished her warmth, her love for handmade gifts, her enthusiasm for puzzles and coffee, her consistency and dedication to fitness, and her deep wisdom. Monie will be especially missed by her husband, the families of her two sons, Steve and Dawn, of Georgetown, TX and the Rev. Jeff and Sonya in Houston, TX,
and her niece Marilyn Heinemann and husband Charles in Silver Spring, MD. She also leaves behind her four grandchildren, Victoria Kieschnick, Donna Muchow, Sierra and Logan Muchow, and her four great-grandchildren Alyssa, Amber, and Althea Kieschnick, and Watson Lopez.
Monie also loved to bake cookies, mow the lawn, make her own and other’s clothes, sing in different choirs (68+ years) and support her husband’s ministry especially as a Shepherdess to Navy Chaplains and spouses. Monie lived with dignity, simplicity, and joy. Whether caring for patients, hosting family gatherings, snuggling with her cat, or savoring a symphonic piece, her life was a quiet melody of service and love. She now rests in the presence of her Lord, clothed in eternal grace, having sought first His kingdom all her days. Her memory will forever be a blessing to all who were touched by her gentle spirit and profound faith.
A memorial service to celebrate Monie’s life will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Uhland, TX, on Monday, July 28, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. Officiants will be Rev. Ben Jore and Dr. William “Bill” Knippa. Friends and family are invited to share stories and memories following the light reception to follow.
