Michael Frederick Hamilton

Michael Hamilton was born on July 30, 1945, in Los Angeles, California.  He passed away June 13, 2025, in Austin, Texas.

Michael served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War from July 1969 to February 1971.  He was the ship's journalist at the USS Shangri-La.  He received the Distinguished National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Metal and the Vietnam Campaign Metal.

Michael attended the University of Oklahoma earning a Master's Degree in Philosophy and Education.  He had a distinguished career as a teacher at Eanes ISD and Austin ISD.  Michael continued his teaching career at Texas State University as a professor, lecturer and academic adviser.

Michael had a passion for music, art, teaching, traveling, and exploring different cultures.  He loved camping, swimming, hiking, and exploring the outdoors with his family.  He also loved baseball and was a lifelong fan of the LA Dodgers.  He will be remembered for his ability to be a positive influence and spread kindness and compassion to everyone he met. 

Michael is survived by his loving wife, Peggy, of 52 years; his devoted son, Christopher, his wife Willow; granddaughter, Sophia; his devoted daughter, Lindsay; and grandsons, Carter and Geoffrey.  He will forever be in our hearts and will be deeply missed.
