Leon Walls, Jr.

September 27, 1938 — June 29, 2023

Austin, Texas

Leon (Cookie) Walls, Jr. was born September 27, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois to Leon Walls and Gladys Johnson. His mother passed away when he was a very young child. He was raised by relatives. Leon had a gift for singing. He sang tenor and bass. He was contracted to be a substitute singer for a Chicago Doo Wop group named The El Dorados.

In 1965, Leon married Rosie R. Bluford. God blessed them with two sons, Leon Walls III and Shandon Walls. In 1971, Leon was united with Diane Blue.  They had a son from this union, DeMarco Blue. In 2003, Leon married Barbara Gibson. This marriage blessed him with three step-children, Dustin A. Williams, Francine A. Osueke and Justice Scott Osueke.

As a young adult, Leon had a dream to see the world. He left Chicago and traveled to many places. He lived in Minnesota, Florida, California, and Nevada. He visited Cuba and Columbia.

Leon loved children. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were special to him. He was always excited to receive photos of them and to sit down to have conversations with them. He was called Grandpa by some and PawPaw by others.

Before his health began to fail, Leon would do volunteer work for The Blackland Community Center. He was active with the Senior Citizens and Alamo Recreation Center. He enjoyed listening to old school jams and playing dominoes with his peers. Leon was loved by everyone because of his warm spirit and great sense of humor.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents, his son Shandon and his brother-n-law, Olen Eugene Pearson. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Barbara, sons Leon Walls III, DeMarco Blue, step-children, Dustin Williams, Francine Osueke and Justice Scott Osueke, brother-n-laws James Gibson, Nathan DeBord, and Darrell Jones, sister-n-laws, Renarda Jones, Adrienne Gail Marshall, Carol Pearson, Tia DeBord, and Leslie Pearson, 12 grandchildren, 28 great greandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Leon was a believer and we know that he is resting peacefully in the arms of Jesus. Amen.
