Obituary for Mr. James Edward Hardin
June 18, 1947 – May 3, 2026
Mr. James Edward Hardin, a man of quiet strength and unwavering love for his family, was born on June 18, 1947, in Bastrop, Texas, to the late Mr. William Hardin and Ms. Inez Wilson. From an early age, James showed a remarkable dedication to learning and excellence, graduating as Valedictorian of Emile High School’s Class of 1965 in Bastrop, Texas.
He continued his academic journey at Huston-Tillotson College, where he proudly became a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. (Alpha Psi Chapter) in 1968. James earned his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, with a minor in Biology, in 1969. Shortly after, he answered the call to serve his country in the United States Army, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1971.
James accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Bastrop, Texas. On December 27, 1969, he married Beverley Adams, and together they built a loving home where they raised three children. Their union was marked by devotion, partnership, and a shared commitment to family.
James found joy in life’s simple pleasures—singing, cooking, and mastering barbecue. His smoker was often lit, and he would settle into his recliner to keep an eye on a slow-cooked brisket. Caring for others through food came naturally to him; no one left his home hungry, and many went home with leftovers. He gave generously and without hesitation.
Those who knew James will remember his humor, his love of Westerns and the Food Network. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, and the countless memories shaped by his kindness and steady presence.
James’s life was a blessing, and his memory will forever remain a source of comfort and love to all who knew him.
On Sunday, May 3, 2026, Mr. James Edward Hardin peacefully departed this life and stepped into eternal rest. He leaves behind a circle of loved ones who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 56 years, Beverley Hardin, who stood faithfully by his side through every season of life. He leaves his three children—Cynthia Smith (Terry), Cheryl Lewis (Marcus), and William Hardin—who will forever honor the lessons, love, and strength he poured into them.
James’s joy extended to his grandchildren, each one a light in his life: Mardelis Lewis, Macen Lewis, Milah Lewis, Alysa Smith, Nathan Smith, Angela Smith, Michelle Smith, and Ariel Smith. Their memories of “Pawpaw” will remain a source of comfort and pride.
He is also cherished by his brother Ricky Wilson (Carol Ann), his sister Ruth Washington, and his God-sister Lezlye Miller, along with his sister-in-law Virginia Adams. His extended family includes nephews David Washington (Celeste) and Eric Wilson (Crystal), and nieces Shamika Wilson, Latasha Walker (Alvin), Alicia Blaylock, Anita Blaylock-Wyndham, and Tiffany Taylor. He is further remembered by a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends, each of whom carries a piece of his legacy.
Though he is no longer with us in body, the love he shared and the wisdom he offered will continue to live on through all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 2:30pm – 5pm at All Faiths Funeral Services
