Hortencia Canales Solano, age 74, passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2025. She was born on August 26, 1950, in Austin, Texas, to Abel and Viviana Canales.
Hortencia was a humble, kindhearted woman who found joy in the simple things—late-night phone calls, music, warm cups of coffee, pan dulce, blueberry muffins, and chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. She loved her novellas, quiet evenings, and the cheerful company of her cockatiel, Lola. More than anything, she treasured time spent with her family and friends.
She retired in 2005 after 28 years of dedicated service with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. For over 38 years, Hortencia was a devoted Jehovah’s Witness. She was known and respected for her deep faith in God and her commitment to her congregation. While her in-person attendance at the Kingdom Hall lessened in recent years, she continued to participate virtually and remained closely connected to the brothers and sisters she so dearly loved.
Hortencia touched countless lives with her gentle spirit, quiet strength, and unwavering love. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, humility, and devotion that will live on through her children and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Abel and Viviana Canales; her brothers Antonio, Mike, Sisto, Leandro, Abel Jr., and Ernest Canales; her sisters Isabella and Mary Canales, and the father of her children, Albert V. Solano.
She is survived by her children: Albert Eric Solano and wife Luci, Melissa Verver and husband Patrick, and Ezra Solano. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Erika Solano, Adam Javier Dominguez, Joshua Dominguez, Marissa Dominguez, Michael Solano, Ezra Elijah Solano, Alyssa Solano, Ezabella Solano, and Sami Verver, and a great-grandmother to 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Higinio and David Canales, along with a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
The Solano Family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff at Comforts of Home for the care and support provided during Hortencia’s final months. We are especially thankful for her personal caregiving team— Carolyn Canales-Ortega, Maria (CNA), Savannah Botello (CNA), Erica Gonzales, Anita Hernandez, Ezra Elijah Solano, Ezabella Solano, Chasity Garcia, and Vanessa Solano (RN). Your kindness, dedication, and presence brought her comfort and peace.
