Glen Lea Mills

Glen Lea Mills, 84, went home to be with The Lord on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at Granite Mesa Health in Marble Falls, Texas.

Glen was born in Morgantown, N.C. September 4, 1938 to Dale and Nellie Mills. The family moved to La Feria, TX around 1945. Glen graduated from La Feria High School in 1957 as president of the class and excelled in sports, receiving a College Scholarship for Tennis. He retired from Texas Parks & Wildlife in 1995 after 25 years as the photographer for their magazine.

After moving from Austin, TX to Granite Shoals, TX, Glen sat in his driveway and waved at cars as they drove by and was soon known as the Granite Shoals Greeter. He made several lifetime friends from his waves! Glen never needed a repairman, as he was his own handyman.

Glen was a member of the First Baptist Church of Granite Shoals, where he was loved and known as Papa Bear by all of the children and adults! He helped in many Vacation Bible Schools, and took care of the grounds for many years. He loved going to the deer hunting lease, and in his later years would just go to sit and watch the deer and wildlife.

Scott (one of The Boys) has fond memories of Daddy-O teaching him to deer and dove hunt, as well as teaching him how to work on vehicles when he was young. Scott also remembers his dad always supported him through life’s struggles. Glen often mentioned how much he loved his boys.

He is preceded in death by his parents Dale and Nellie Mills, and brother Don Mills.

Glen is survived by his wife Sandra Mills, sister Joyce Fieldahl of Corpus Christi, TX, sons Keith Mills (Patti) and Scott Mills (Karen), grandson Ethan Mills, Stepson and Stepdaughter Dean Johnson and Debbi Pedroza.

There will be a Celebration of Life at First Baptist Church of Granite Shoals on Saturday, October 7, 2023 starting at 11:00am with a lunch to follow hosted in the Fellowship Hall.

Condolences may be made on this page.
