Eileen Marie Brown (Whetzle) passed away on July 18, 2024, at the age of 89, in Round Rock, Texas. Born on January 24, 1935, in Eden, NY, to Samuel and Marion Whetzle, Eileen grew up in Eden, New York, where she always said she had an idyllic childhood. She married her husband, Thomas Joseph Brown, in 1955. They later moved to Sugarland, TX, where they raised their three children—Michelle, Dianne, and Brian. After more than 20 years in Sugarland, Tom and Eileen moved to start another adventure in High Rolls, New Mexico, where their grandchildren loved visiting for snowy adventures. Eventually, they returned to Georgetown, TX, where Eileen lived until her passing.
Eileen's many successful careers included real estate, high school administration and non-profits including working with seniors and children. Her passion was her career with at-risk youth where her dedication to making a difference in the lives of others was exemplified. In retirement, Eileen remained as active as ever, volunteering at voting polls, joining the neighborhood patrol, hosting dinner parties, and cherishing her time with family.
Eileen had a lifelong love for animals, including her Dalmatian Trixie, her cat, Midnight, horses Misty, Cloud, and Rebel, Checkers, our rabbit, sheep including Suzette and BaBa, Great Danes Simba and Magic, and her rescued pets by proxy in New Mexico, Spike and Tasha. She was also passionate about family history, spending countless hours organizing and preserving family stories. Eileen was elated to have her Irish Citizenship recognized (via her grandfather’s birth in Ireland) and her dual American/Irish citizenship certified.
Eileen's love for storytelling, especially her slightly embellished versions, and her adventurous spirit will be fondly remembered. Always wanting to travel, she found a way by working as the Director of the Houston Oasis – a senior citizen educational program, As part of her responsibilities, she coordinated trips for seniors and led travel groups to Spain, China, Morocco, and other places. Two of her most memorable adventures were trips to China with her husband Thomas and daughter Dianne and Morocco with her husband and her sister Mary.
Eileen is survived by her husband, Thomas Joseph Brown; sister, Mary Agnes Whetzle; children Michelle Acevedo, Dianne Long (and her husband Steve Long), and Brian Brown (and his wife Carol Brown); grandchildren Justin Joseph and Erin Emily Acevedo, Shelly Marie Allhands (Long), and Alicia and Brittany Brown. She was predeceased by her parents, Samuel and Marion Lenore Whetzle, brother Robert (Bobby) Whetzle, and son-in-law Jerry Acevedo.
