Chris Boyd died of sudden cardiac arrest on May 13, 2025. Born in Cypress, Texas, on September 25, 1963, Chris was 61 when he died.
Chris met his wife Melanie while attending Texas A&M in College Station. Chris and Melanie were happily married for almost 39 years.
Chris graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas and became a network engineer. He left network engineering briefly in 2010 to co-found what is now Midas Immersion Cooling. There, he helped develop technology to cool the servers in data centers by immersing them in liquid, which requires significantly less power than traditional air cooling.
Chris loved bicycles. During college, he rode regularly and worked as a bike mechanic. Over the years, he continued to ride frequently, and he completed multiple century rides. A few years ago, he discovered an indoor cycling service called Zwift, and started riding with a group called The Herd. He also continued working on bikes as a hobby. He repaired bikes for friends, and he “rescued” multiple bikes that had been put out as trash, keeping some and donating others to charity. Over the years, he collected 10 bicycles.
Chris also loved dogs, was an excellent cook, and loved to travel. He enjoyed music and the arts. He was a kind, loving, and generous person who will be sorely missed by his friends and family.
Chris is survived by his wife, Melanie, and his younger brother, Eric.
There will be a memorial gathering on Saturday, June 28, from noon to 3:00 in the Great Hall at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.
If you wish to honor him, consider a donation in his memory to Austin Pets Alive or The Yellow Bike Project.
