Charles Owens

March 27, 1941 — October 15, 2012

North Austin Location

Charles Edward Owens was born on March 27, 1941 to William and Clara Mae Owens. He was the second born of five children. He passed away on October 15, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, William Owens, Jr.

Charles was known as "Speedy" by his high school friends as well as his neighborhood friends and associates. Charles received this nickname because of his speed in all the sports he played. Charles enjoyed spending time with his friends at Dan's restaurant where he enjoyed his main meals daily.

Charles loved his family and we certainly loved him. His laughter and jokes kept his family laughing at every family gathering.

He worked for the United States Postal Service and retired after more than 20 years of service. Prior to his employment at the Post Office, Charles was a decorated veteran of the United States Navy and was employed at Brackenridge Hospital in the boiler room. Charles was a proud graduate of the Original L. C. Anderson High School class of 1959.

There are no words that can express how much Charles will be missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him and loving him. Everyone knew him to be a good and caring man.

Charles leaves to cherish his home going one daughter, Patricia Y. Owens, four grandchildren, Donnel Hughes, Sharnice Owens, Tosha Henderson and Chenell Hughes; three great grandchildren, LaDaja Hughes, Donaja Hughes and Janiyah Wheeler. One sister, Barbara Ruth Owens Bell (Arthur), two brothers, Vernon Lee Owens (Felecia), and Harold Eugene Owens (Gloria) and a host of other relatives and friends.
