Bettie Naylor

d. April 19, 2012

North Austin Location

Bettie Naylor, 84, passed away gently in her sleep on April 19 in Austin, Texas. One of Texas and the nations most influential political powerhouses and a fierce advocate for women and the gay community, Bettie's long career as a lobbyist brightened the State Capitol and livened up the legislature for many decades. Bettie retired from her successful lobbying career in 2009 but remained an enthusiastic supporter of many causes dear to her heart, including groups like Zach Scott Theater, the Atticus Circle, Family Eldercare of Austin and Annie's List. While her career as a lobbyist and a behind the scenes political power broker was important to her, Bettie's family meant the world to her. Bettie leaves behind her beloved partner of nine years, Libby Sykora and her son Jeff Fisher, along with Bettie's children Rick Naylor and his wife Cathy, Chuck Naylor and his wife Donna, and Sharron Naylor and her partner Rita Baranowski, as well as her grandchildren Brian, Danielle and Vanessa. Bettie will be missed by everyone whose life she touched. Godspeed Bettie, and know you were well loved and will be missed. A Memorial Service is planned for May 5, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. in Austin at the First United Methodist Church at 1201 Lavaca Street. A reception will be held across the street at the Family Life Center following the Memorial Service. Donations in Bettie's memory can be made to Family Eldercare directed to the Bettie Naylor Fund at 1700 Rutherford Lane, Austin, Texas 78754.
