Obituary

Annie Rae Byers, aged 92 of Georgetown, Texas passed away peacefully Saturday March 14, 2026. Annie was the oldest of eight children born to Sidney Clark and Louise Bass Clark. She is preceded in death by her husband Gilbert Byers her brothers Sidney Clark, Jr, Alfred Clark, James Clark, sister Betty Hall, daughter Dorothy Clark and sons, Charles Holden Jr., Edward Holden and Aaron Holden.

Annie was born on September 16, 1933, in Georgetown, Texas and subsequently moved to Austin and later in life she returned to Georgetown. Annie graduated from G.W. Carver High School in Georgetown. She was a Registered Dietitian and worked for Travis State School and Four Seasons Nursing Home. Annie married Charles Holden with 6 children born to this union. She later met and married Gilbert Byers, the love of her life and was married until his death in 2006. Annie accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior early in life and faithfully attended Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Austin, Texas which served as the family church, until she relocated to Georgetown.

She was a woman of strength, grace, wisdom, and unconditional love. As a cancer survivor, Annie served as a role model to her family through her steadfast faith, courage and determination. She had a great sensor of humor, loved to laugh and was a blessing to so many who were fortunate to meet her. Annie’s joys in life included cooking for her family and serving others at large gatherings. She cherished spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Annie was also an avid fan of gospel music and especially enjoyed listening to Lee Williams.

Annie is survived by her siblings Joan Jones, Sharon Clark and Lois Clark, children Patricia Handcox (Gary), Glenn Holden, Danny Holden and Randy Byers (Shavon), 50 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Annie will be missed by all whom she touched. However, we are comforted by her enduring legacy, our numerous fond memories, and the way she touched our hearts.

Visitation will take place between 4pm and 7 pm on Friday March 27, 2026 at the Austin-Peel Chapel Funeral Home located at 607 E. Anderson Lane, Austin, Texas 78752.

The services will take place at Greater Love Baptist Church, 6601 Manor Road, Austin, Texas 78723 at 11 am Saturday March 28, 2026. Interment will take place on Tuesday, April 7th at 1pm at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 TX-195, Killeen, Texas 76542 (254-616-1770)
