Michael “Mikey” Anthony Reed-Harper was born on June 16, 1978 to parents James Author Harper, Sr. and Bertha Reed in Austin, Texas. At an early age he was baptized by Reverend A.W. Anthony Mays and joined the Mount Sinai Baptist Church. Also, he later attended St. Paul Baptist Church and sang in the youth choir. Michael attended Austin Independent School District during his primary school years and graduated from John H. Reagan High School. He decided to further his education by attending the Southern Careers Institute while pursuing a degree in Business Administration.
Michael worked for Dell Computers in manufacturing and later at Applied Materials as a forklift operator. Also, Michael was an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing basketball and often shared his knowledge of football and other sports. He was a self-proclaimed comedian and used his talent to entertain anyone who would listen. Most importantly, he was never a stranger to anyone and possessed a smile that would entice many to love him immediately. Michael’s love for his children and family had no bounds and created unbreakable bonds and loving relationships with everyone he encountered.
Michael leaves to celebrate his home going, Mother Bertha Reed and father James A. Harper Sr.; children Tyra Lashay Reed-Harper, Nathan Jamal Reed-Harper; sisters Teeyia Mercer of Austin, Texas, Tracy Harper of Katy, Texas, and Deirdre Aldridge of Houston, Texas; grandmother Norvell Williams of Austin, Texas; eight uncles, eight aunts, one niece and two nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services are entrusted to All Saints Funeral Services to be held at St. John’s Tabernacle, Austin, Texas at 11 a.m. on September 8, 2018.
