Lucille Shaw

August 26, 1917 — December 23, 2017

North Austin Location

Lucille Mabel Kreager Shaw passed away peacefully on December 23, at the Austin home she shared with her daughter, Kimberley Wood.  Lucille was born on August 26, 1917 in Malaka Township, Iowa.  She was the third child and eldest daughter of Ralph Charles Kreager and Floy Pauline McElroy Kreager.  She had four brothers, Morris, Robert, Ross and Harold, and a sister, Nadine, all deceased.  Lucille attended the local schools.  At Newton High School, she took the Normal Training Course, which qualified her to teach school, which she did for five years, at Mariposa #4 and Malaka #3.  She married her lifelong love, Norman Geddes Shaw, on July 1,1940, and they moved to Los Angeles.

While Norman was overseas during World War II, she worked as a clerk in Woolworth's in Savannah, Georgia, and as a cashier at Montgomery Wards in Newton, Iowa.  After World War II Norman and Lucille returned to Los Angeles, where their daughter Kathryn was born.  A few years later they fulfilled their dream of owning their own farm, buying an unimproved acreage in Montague, Siskiyou County, California.  Their children Kimberley and Kevin (deceased) were born there.  Lucille worked hard on the farm, taught Sunday School at the First Baptist Church in Yreka, California, and was very active as a 4-H sewing leader, and later a County Fair judge.

When Norman retired, they moved to a small acreage in Orland, California, where they attended the Free Evangelical Church  After Norman's death in 2000, Lucille moved to Mesa, Arizona, to be closer to her son Kevin and his wife Penney, and granddaughter Heather.  Seven years ago, when Lucille gave up driving, she moved to Austin to live with her daughter, Kimberley Wood.  In August she celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends.  She is survived by daughters Kathy and Kim, son-in-law Paul,  like-a-daughter Penney and her husband Kees, grandchildren and their spouses John and Annie Tufts, Kristin Tufts and Stuart Robb, Heather and Jack Hickman, Carena and Matt Beimler, and Jason Wood.  Her beloved great-grandchildren are Ellowyn Beimler, Jona and Tana Tufts, Nicola Robb and Brianna Hickman.

Lucille was a very kind-hearted, loving person; devout, hard-working, and with a positive attitude toward life.  She touched the lives of all who knew her.  Our family would like to thank Dr. Allen Sonstein and his staff for their kind and respectful care.  Lucille's memorial service will be on Saturday, January 6 at 1 pm, at Bannockburn Baptist Church, 7100 Brodie Lane, Austin, Texas 78748.

She will be buried beside Norman in Orland, California.  For those who wish, you may also access the online guest registry and obituary at www.allfaithsonline.com
