Daryll Stewart

September 14, 1956 — September 9, 2019

North Austin Location

Daryll Deleon Stewart, 62, of Austin, Texas peacefully passed away September 9, 2019. He was born September 14, 1956.  The oldest of six children, at an early age, Daryll showed great compassion and concern for others. He was a kind and nurturing person from childhood and a man who dearly loved his family. Daryll grew up in a military family – strict rules, discipline, and lots of moving around.  He made friends with everyone, and wanted everyone to be friends.  When his family returned to Austin, he became a dedicated member of Pecan Springs Baptist Church (Greater Union Missionary Baptist).  At Reagan High School, Austin Independent School District, he played on the football team, and as a member of the Speech Club, had award-winning performances in University Interscholastic League competitions for dramatic interpretations and poetry.  It also was at Reagan that Daryll’s entrepreneurial skills emerged. The school administration asked him to play music for the students during lunch period, and so it was at age 16 that Daryll began deejaying and continued to do so until his health failed, for over 45 years.  Daryll was known all around Texas.  Karate was another one of Daryll’s passions, a martial art he studied, practiced, and taught for decades. Daryll also studied Business Administration at Concordia University.

Daryll’s employment record includes 17 years at Texas Instruments (TI).  After his TI career, he spent many years working with at-risk youth in the Round Rock Independent School District and local Alternative and Justice Centers.  Daryll also worked with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) for 12 years where he had budgeting, coordinating, and testing roles.  With TDCJ, his biggest joy came from assisting the inmate students. Daryll’s most recent employment however, as an after-school attendant and karate instructor at Third Coast Martial Arts, was his most endearing.

Daryll had numerous honors and achievements. Some of the honors and recognition he was most proud of include:  Eighth Degree Black Belt in Soryu Karate, Best Disc Jockey in Texas by the Amateur Organization of Karate, and Referee of the Year in Texas by the Amateur Organization of Karate.

Daryll is predeceased by his father, Calvin E. Stewart and one brother, William E. Stewart.  Those who remain to cherish his memory are: his mother Clarence “Connie” White Stewart; brothers: Clarence (Debra), Mark, and Timothy (Yvonne); sister Bridget (Bernard); sons: O’Quinton (Keisha) and Kalverna Stewart; uncles Ezekiel White (Bettye) and Tommie White (Joyce); aunts: Shirley Alexander (Curley), Elza Russworm, Laura Stewart, and Elaine Stewart; grandsons: Donovan, Nathaniel, and Zachariah; nieces: Yolanda, Bridney, and Diamond; nephews: Barry and Jarrell; cousins, great nieces and great nephews; godson Oszy Perez; dear friend Melonie Nesby, Charla Gayle; other family members and friends, and his Karate Family.

Visitation will be held September 13, 2019, Friday 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm at All Faiths North, 8507 N. IH-35.  Funeral services are September 14, 2019, Saturday at 11:00 AM at Greater Union Missionary Baptist Church, 2939 Pecan Springs Road, Pastor Rickey E. Williams.
