Clarence “Butch” E. Hawkins, 71, of Austin, passed peacefully on 2/7/2018 in Austin, TX surrounded by his family. Butch was born in Austin, TX and lived much of his life there, graduating from the University of Texas. He was a photographer in the Air Force, and later as a geography teacher at Webb Middle School and Anderson High School.
Butch then served in the Texas Army National Guard at Camp Mabry for 35 years, retiring as a CW4. While honorably serving his country, he earned among others the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.
Butch was an avid UT football, basketball and baseball fan. He enjoyed the camaraderie of his friends, neighbors and family, good conversation, good books and a good steak.
Butch is survived by his two daughters Kali Mae Hawkins and Sarah Gail Hawkins, along with their mother, Kathy Espinosa, grandson Ethan Douglas Miller and three sisters Kay West, Sylvia Oliver, her husband Paul , Cynde Smith and a hose of caring nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was proceeded in death by parents, Selma B. Williams and Clarence E Hawkins, step-father Carroll Williams, brother Wayne Seiders and brother-in-law Don West.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Salvation Army; Wounded Warriors or StarBase Austin (TX Military Department).
Inurnment Services will be held on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at Texas State Veterans Cemetery, Killeen Texas.
A Celebration Service will be held at 2 pm on March 16th, 2018 at the chapel at Camp Mabry, 2200 W. 35th Street, Austin, TX 78757 with reception following at the BlueBonnet House.
Directions to Camp Mabry Entrance/Chapel:
Gate entrance off of W 35th street, past Exposition. Turn Right at the next light, through gates which will take you up to a guard station. MUST have picture ID to enter. Tell the guard you are going to the chapel. They can give you additional directions. Follow to the end of road, turn R, take first R and first R at next stop sign. Follow the road up just past the track (on Left). Chapel will be on the Left. Parking available close by.
Reception at the BlueBonnet House which is further down the road, on the left hand side just before you reach the track and Mopac. Please park on left side of street.
